Located just 20 minutes from downtown Phoenix, Camelback Mountain is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a popular draw for hikers visiting the area. Part of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, the mountain rises 1,420 feet and gets its name from two rock formations that resemble the head and back of a kneeling camel.
Two trails lead to the summit, Echo Canyon and Cholla Trail, and both are considered extremely difficult. Expect steep elevation gain, exposed rock, and sections that require hand‑over‑hand climbing.
